Yes, they can certainly hurt and break skin. Their teeth do NOT continue to grow once they are an adult though. I have never had one bite me hard enough to make me bleed but it can happen.

Yes, last time I trimmed nails Mr Jingles pierced my finger with his teeth. Hurt like heck!

I thought I saw a thread on the sugar glider side about someone else who got hurt much worse than I did. You should check that out too.

Not trying to scare you, just want to be honest.

In a word: Holyfreakin'crapthoseteetharebloodysharpouchouchouchOUCHIE!

Yes they can bite, and yes they can break skin. In fact there is a thread about a poster here who ended up with a bad infection from a glider bite and Ed, (LuckyGlider) had a pretty bad bite too I believe.

I've gotten bit only once by my new glider and it stung like nothing else!

They aren't like rodents though, their teeth do not grow constantly, they stay the same length throughout their lives....

Hope this helps and good luck with your baby!

PLEASE - NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO TRIM OR FILE A GLIDERS TEETH!

They have nerve endings in their teeth just like we do and clipping or filing them would cause them a lifetime of pain!

That is a weird picture of the teeth. My gliders teeth do not look like that. Maybe I have never seen the back ones but the front ones on my gliders look like little buck teeth with a chicklet holder.

That isn't really their teeth. LOL It is important that their nails stay trimmed or they can get stuck on things. There is not a way to guarantee they will never bite. They are animals.

That is not the only time they bite -- just my most recent example.

Mine do not bite unless they are being held against their will (like must be done to trim nails) or on accident if they are trying to get food from my hands. They do bite my husbands fingers more often because he continues to ignore my advice and stick his fingers in the cage in front of them. I don't know what he expects them to do but I keep telling him that they'll bite every time.

That'll be okay as long as his nails don't start snagging on things. If you have a wheel with trim tracks (Wodent or Stealth) to help keep them filed down smooth, he'll be fine. Otherwise you'd have to take him to the vet to have his nails clipped, or do it yourself. It's very important to keep their nails from snagging, as they'll hurt themselves trying to get free.

If your sugar gilder bites you. It is YOUR FAULT Remember you are dinosaur size compared to them. Have patience, use common since. If someone held you down grabbed your hands to cut your nails what would you do?

Do some research on youtube, ask your vet or have you vet trim them. Use a wheel.
Let the sit in your hand eating a treat and use a small nail file while they are busy. Find a way that does not freak them out

But above all Be Nice no matter what.
