So I decided to upgrade to the extra large corner aviary and am about to pull my hair out. It would be nice if detailed instructions were included, and if they mentioned you would either need x amount of floor space or vaulted ceilings to assemble the darn thing. I'm certain once assembled the suggies will love it, but I've already put the cage portion together wrong and now have to dissassemble it and reassemble it properly. Fortunately I am not single, or it would never be assembled as you need a holder and a person to fasten while held. Why didn't I get the tower cages? What was I thinking!!!
dragonracer Glider USA 142 Posts Don't we know your pain! My husband & I ran into the same problem - no instructions and space. We had the space for it, once in the corner. The putting together space - well, lets just say limited. Go to my pictures and you can see the finished product. We put the sides together with the back - laid out. Then proceeded to fold them in to add the front. Still laid down, we put top on, to hold it together. The bottom should fit then. Ours has wheels. Put those on, still laid down - of course. If you have the bottom grate - that can be a pain to fit. Ours has a pull out bottom for easy clean up. IF and a BIG IF, you do have the bottom grate, make sure that there is absolutely no space between it and the lower pan. We had an escape artist that found the space. Fortunatly, she didn't go far and ended in a clean sack beside the cage. We have temporarily fixed that problem with cement pavers. Good luck! Like I mentioned - go to my pictures and you can see our finished product. Oh yea, I forgot the white slats that go on the sides. These too can be a pain to slide in and stay. But, our kids love it! Have any questions, feel free to ask. DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts Thanks all! You guys are awesome. Kazko, it is the 100G-1 but we finally got it together, thanks to everyone for the help! I have to say, assembly aside, it's pretty awesome. The suggies LOVE it. When I first put them in they looked around with astonished expressions; I wish I had a pic. Will have to upload photos as soon as I'm done decorating. And the bottom grate would definitely be an escape hazard so I ziptied it to the sides. Next challenge: cleaning it ;-) dragonracer Glider USA 142 Posts swithers - I got mine on sugargliderstore.com. Only go there for the toys and such. Just happened to be on sale and I had an on-line coupon. DeathToFORLs - Ours were so funny to watch too. After about 10 minutes, one of the little girls decided to check the new house. Then everybody started checking it out. When they found out they had all that room to stretch, it was "on". I too wish I had pictures - they would've been worth a thousand words. Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for the zip tie idea! I'll try that out too. For cleaning? Well, I pretty much have to lay inside it to get the lower area. I also have a extended shower sponge thing, that works fairly well. DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts My apologies if I should have started a new thread for this, but I couldn't help myself, I had to share Some pics of Belle and Sebastian enjoying their new digs:
This cage is ENORMOUS
More mealies please
My decorating skills leave something to be desired, but they don't seem to mind too much. I think it will look much better once the rest of their "gear" is out of the dryer and hung. DaCoSim Super Glider 330 Posts DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts Thanks y'all. The dimensions are 52"x42"x74". It's seriously a monster! skeeterabc Joey 49 Posts wow, this cage is awesome and so sharp looking, i would love to get Aerial a really big cage, but we only have a 900 square foot house. She has a pretty descent size cage, but seeing this, i think i just might get rid of some furniture..lol.. DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts Kazko, for the most part it's a killer cage. The sides are more like 38 by my measure and the 52 is measuring from the right front corner to the left rear corner. I'm a words person not a math person ( failed geometry 3 times in high school) so hypotenuse is sadly not a familiar term for me. I know, I should really go back to school for math! There are a few things I would change about the cage: *heavier gauge bars *open out doors rather than slide up doors (which can be converted but would be nice if came that way) *wire bottom grate forming an escape proof seal without the use of zipties *a wire top directly below the metal top for ease of hanging items (right now I'm covering pine perches in fleece in order to hang things from the top) *more solid construction and or heavier epoxy coat (all sounds are SUPER loud and echo-y ) *a pull out tray that pulls out from the FRONT of the cage instead of the back so you don't have to move the whole cage out to remove the catch tray *a different color finish, like black vein or silver vein All in all I'm quite pleased; the use of space is fantastic, but in a perfect world you'd be able to purchase this in stainless surgical steel with all the above modifications. I fortunately have an account with A&E so got the cage for cost. I can say with certainty that $305 is incredibly reasonable with minimal markup, and even shipping freight it came in less than a week. Someday, I'll have my stainless steel walk in aviary, but until I can save for that this will definitely suffice. Since I got my kiddos in January I've spent well over $2500 on supplies, housing, food, etc and though it's been expensive these guys are soooo worth it. "take check from employer, place directly in sugar gliders paws" lol. DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts Oh and yeah, no way is this thing fitting through ANY door unless it's sliding glass or French doors! Skeeter: this footprint of this cage is pretty decent, you may have to get rid of furniture to put it together, lol, but once assembled takes up relatively little space for its dimensions. And I will defintely have to try the extended shower sponge for cleaning. Thanks for the tip dragonracer! DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts Kazko, I remeasured using a tape measure instead of a fabric tape measure and I'm befuddled because: "corner" or largest back panels are 34 inches across by 64 in height, with the cage total height on casters at 74 inches. The three front panels each measure 20 inches across by 64 in height. I may have to call A&E because this just isn't adding up, that or I have a bogus tape measure which is unlikely. I'm a bit upset that what I have isn't what I was promised, but it is big enough. Let me know if you can figure where they're getting these di ensions because I'm baffled! Dragonracer, I'll have to implement the ring idea, that's genius! kazko Little Bunny FooFoo TX, USA 6747 Posts Corner aviary inside squared dimensions: 34 x 34 x 64 = 73984 subtract front corner triangle: (1/2(14x14)) x 64 = 6272 total inside area = 67712 sqin Exel XL inside dimensions: 30 x 30 x 56 = 50400 You win! Exel L inside: 30 x 18 x 56 = 30240 Connect two side by side = 60480 It looks like the corner may be a very good way to go. I wish the doors were larger though, and the pans were front accessible. DeathToFORLs Joey 39 Posts Candy, the wheel on the right side as you're looking at the picture is a stealth. I ordered it when I had my exel tower and couldn't fit it through the door, but there was plenty of room to get it through the door on this cage. I'll measure for you when I'm back home. Kazko, thanks for the calculations, I'm glad even if it wasn't as advertised that it's still quite roomy! I'm ashamed however at my math skills, lol. And yes, the engineering of the pull out pan is ridiculousy backwards! Chippy Starting Member 1 Posts I realize this is a bit of an old thread, but it is the ONLY one I have found for this exact cage. I was thinking of buying this model but wanted to double check the safety of it. Really wondering about what you guys meant when saying the bottom had problems: quote: wire bottom grate forming an escape proof seal without the use of zipties
What's wrong with the bottom that creates escape worries? Where are the zipties/how do you use them to make it escape proof?
