casepell Starting Member 2 Posts I was just a victim of scamming today, luckily I figured it out before I sent money. The woman said that she was honeymooning in florida when she found out that she's pregnant and decided to stay. She said she was willing to give her glider for free to a good home and after getting my address, she asked for $180. Every time I asked if I could just drive down to pick up the glider, she made an excuse. I don't want one shipped. It seems cruel. The whole story was fishy but I got too excited...so if anybody gets that story then it is a scam! They called their fake glider Titi. casepell Starting Member 2 Posts I was just a victim of scamming today, luckily I figured it out before I sent money. They would act all sweet and seem legit until they would ask for my information and to wire money. One "woman" said she wanted me to just donate money to an orphanage, and she had an entire story planned out. I was buying into it until she wanted me to transfer the money through Western Union. HUGE SCAM. She seemed so kind, and at the end of every message she would say "God bless you." The other 2 just got to the point and asked for me to transfer the money through Western Union. However, my first suggie baby that I bought 1 week and 1/2 ago I thought was just too good to be true, but it was true! :) I bought Mimzy (my suggie) for $100. The girl threw in her large cage, toys, pouches, hammock, pee pads, food, water bottle, food bowl, and wheel along with her for just $100!! I had to drive 4 hours to pick up my baby, but it was an amazing price. The girl simply couldn't take care of her anymore. Mimzy is a very sweet baby, and we are on the bonding path. Don't always infer that a person is just trying to scam you. Now she says they are free but shipping of course will cost 200 to my door. I think she is a scam. Watch out! aleatoire Starting Member 1 Posts Recently, I posted an ad that I was looking for sugar gliders to adopt. And I got a message from someone named David Cooper. He offered to allow me to adopt one from his family as long as we drove to his location - which is three hours away. I am just wondering if this is a scam.... michellehc2007 Starting Member 1 Posts quote: Originally posted by karensink

redheadedpossum Starting Member 9 Posts ALSO!!!!!!!! Look up the breeder name and phone number on the internet. I saw a breeder in my area, and she had 3 violation on her USDA. I did more to find she practices witch craft and was caught selling joeys at 6 weeks and under. Glad I looked her up!
Some photos from our members kb314 Joey TN, USA 17 Posts I saw that same ad on hoobly when I first started looking for a breeding pair in 2012, I am glad I trusted my gut and realized they were a scam. I was planning on driving to pick up my pair, wherever they were so I told them I wanted their information so I could pick them up, also told them I wanted their phone number so I could call them, never could get a response back. So I would suggest to get them to prove that they are reputable. Anyone that is, will be able to prove it. Sam13 Joey 33 Posts Witchcraft is also a correct name, one can be Wiccan without being a witch and vice versa. I practice the craft but am not Wiccan. Please do post who did the scam, I'm thinking about getting a third baby in the next year or so and REALLY don't wanna be scammed :D valkyriemome Goofy Gorillatoes USA 3479 Posts quote: Originally posted by michellehc2007

Funny- that is EXACTLY the same message you get when you inquire about other scammed animals. Be it a parrot or a cat or a dog .... the EXACT same email, only the species has been changed.
Cathryn95 Starting Member 1 Posts I am so glad my mum turned me onto this. I was just about to be scammed. She sent me a scam from 2012 and it read almost exactly like the email I had just received. I figured I would give you guys an update. The email address is glidersfly30@gmail.com Hi All sounds well and its nice reading from you and sorry for the late reply. Yes I do have sugar gliders.I am having 2 male and 2 female sugar gliders for re homing,as they socialized well with each other.Their temperament is Good, they are play full with, kids and other pets. They are more comfortable with toys as this prevent them from getting bored. They are health Guaranteed . They are up to date on all shots/deworming. They will be Delivered with their health papers along side vet records. They are called Max,Fred,Velma and Kiki Max and Velma and brother and sister.while Kiki and Fred are twins Here are some attached pictures of the sugar gliders. I am actually giving out these sugar gliders because they belonged to my daughter(Jenner) but with a heavy heart i lost Jenner and she was all i got ,i work with a global,broad-based health care Company Devoted to Discovering New Medicines, New technologies and new ways to Manage Health.Jenner died in an Accident last 6 weeks on her way back from her piano classes and i have very bad memories when i see these sugar gliders around me,because they were always together with her since i am always busy in the laboratory. I really need to give them to someone who can really care and love them just the way Jenner used to,as Max,Fred,Velma and Kiki has been very lonely since Jenner passed away so the best thing i decided on as my colleague advised me was to send them to a loving home . I really count on you if you can be there for these sugar gliders.I will Deliver them to you . Please may i also ask you a few Questions? Where are you base? Are you a breeder? Do you have kids? Can you also promise that you will take good care them? How soon are you ready to have them home? Which of them are you ready for? At least with this information,I will get to know better where they will be going to .I just hope you will love them. I will also like you to promise me that you will always send pictures to me monthly so that I can see how they are doing in your home.I will be waiting for your mail. Thanks There were even pictures! I'm a little upset now, because those gliders looked simply adorable. DanteD716 Joey 27 Posts When I bought my glider, me and the seller (a very kind woman) first emailed for about a week, then exchanged numbers and texted for a few more days, and met in person. Safest way and best way I think possible. But somebody posted that improper grammar is a red flag. I disagree, because my seller used texting laguage (ur instead of your, etc) but she was real, and very kind. Some people just like making spelling simpler sugella Starting Member 4 Posts Another scammer is vannesacorks@yahoo.com. I don't know if 'she/he' is still doing it, but they were active last year. Everything sounds OK until you get the 'no you can't pick them up' (she's 'in Colorado') and the money transfer is through Western Union money transfer, the home of scammers. Any email that asks you for every detail about yourself is probably a scam (identity fraud). Any email with 'god bless' sounds like Nigerian or some other African country scammers. That's sad, that they'd use the Lord's name as they attempt to scam money out of you. Lilmama1084 Joey 13 Posts heatherkinggliders@gmail.com this person is also a scam!! From lima cameroon. If you look up her email she's in every city, has pictures, but wants money western union. Luckily for me I told her I wanted to meet her in person. She insisted on shipping to my door which is impossible where I live. Lucille Super Glider 238 Posts NEVER send money via Western Union to a vendor you don't know. Check out reps of vendors by doing a search both Google and here If they send a picture, run it through Tineye to make sure the photo is really theirs: www.tineye.com
There are many reputable vendors. There are many good rescues. And you can be a hero to older gliders who are being rehomed on Craigslist or elsewhere by giving them a new, caring home. Just pay attention. Be safe. Not only are their scams for your money, but there are violent predatory people on CL, so take precautions. Using Paypal can be iffy because sometimes they will not back up disputes about critters (although sometimes they do). Using a credit card is good except that you don't want to give a scammer access to your credit card number. I recently looked through CL and ended up with a nice one year old pair of gliders. But along the way there was a person who said she would sell to me but when I said I wanted to pickup, just stopped communicating. There was another who was excessively vague- could not give me cage measurements, or her name or a phone number. It was a good deal but I finally said no thanks after several unanswered requests for info. I know how it is when you think you have a really good deal, or when you are led to believe that you have to purchase right then and there or there is no deal. You focus on mental pictures of those cute gliders in your home instead of taking your time and thinking it over and focussing on the transaction. Scammers know this, so they step up the 'cute' descriptions and pressure you to pay up right away. There will always be other deals, other gliders. Keep your cash and yourself safe by going the extra mile to check out any purchase you are considering. onelilmermaid Starting Member FL, USA 4 Posts I was recently sold the Jenner story too, from someone claiming to be Stephanie Taylor with the email taylor_stephanie47@yahoo.co.uk . I looked up her email and the photos she sent me, but did not find anything suspicious until the "shipping company" she was going to use sent me an email asking for a wire transfer of money (which of course I said no way to). They were clever and used the name of a real company, AirAnimals, but I looked up this company which said they have been having a lot of trouble with people pretending to be them and selling animals. The email came from airanimals_airlines@yahoo.co.uk . One thing I learned is that animals are never shipped to your door, someone always must pick them up from the airport. onelilmermaid Starting Member FL, USA 4 Posts quote: Originally posted by Candy

I'm afraid that did not raise any flags for me as I know people who live here but are from the UK that still use the same email address. However, when the "shipping company" sent an email with the same .co.UK that did indeed clue me in. I will, however, readily admit that I am a gullible person, no matter how hard I try not to be.
