Jan 19, 2009 Monday 1/19 I'm ready to get on with the introductions, but I sure have a hard time getting Washi by himself. I really don't want to start with Kioko, he's so much bigger and dominating. Shikoni getting sick delayed everything but he's better now. He sure was playful this morning! No Hide-and-Seek, it was Leaping Lizards for about forty-five minutes ... up the robe, jump onto me, jump onto the curtains, the towel bar, the counter, the floor, even the top of the medicine chest. I've never seen him so energetic. I mostly just stood in the middle of the room and let him go, I was kind of like the center tree in a grove. It's a small room, and he was really into the long leaps. No gliding yet, it's probably a matter of time before he goes from one end to the other. If I hadn't been in the way he may have done it this morning. Gave him the last three crickets for a morning snack. I gave Kioko and Washi an egg last night. I peeled of some of the shell and set it on the floor fleece. Kioko went to it first, he started pulling at the white and eating; Washi was at the food dish getting the mango. I didn't stay to watch much of it, but this morning it looked like they had eaten close to half. Most of the yolk was gone. There are little bits of shell scattered around, that's all. I guess they liked it! Shikoni won't eat hard-boiled egg at all; he barely eats scrambled. Just not his favorite food. I gave him chicken with the mango and celery. His dish was had only a few scraps; the boys left about half of their celery. I gave Shikoni back his nest this morning. He sure was glad to see it! I had taken it out while he was on the Amoxy, it was just too hard to get him out of it; same with the tunnel. He had two pouches, so much easier. During that medication time he would hardly come to me, he associated me with the medicine and didn't want to take any chances of getting that syringe stuck in his face. Of course it didn't happen every time I held him, but I guess twice a day was enough! He's over that now, he comes right over when I open the cage and gets on my hand the way he has always done. I'm glad about that, he's such a sweet little guy! Still working on the boys, they still won't come to me if the cage door's open. Washi will usually get on my hand, but not stay very long. Kioko rarely does, and when he does, he only stays a second or two. It's slow going, I think if I had either one as a solitary it wouldn't be so difficult, but since they have each other they only need me for treats! Cleaning cages today and washing fleece. I washed the toys yesterday, I'll only have two pouches and some floor fleeces and blankets to do today. The bridge and hammocks and extra pouches & blankets got washed last week, so that's a job not needed today. Cage mesh and bars are not too sticky either, just a little wipe down should take care of that. Bought some porcelain dishes at a garage sale, little Korean sauce dishes, plain white. Just right for the boys. Also found a nice deep squared saucer in a pretty yellow, it'll be great for juice for the boys. Like I need a few more dishes! I'll get to the Dollar Tree today; hope they have the Cranimals or the bunnies. Our Dollar Tree has a very poor selection of toys; I've never found anything there suitable -- of course I don't go very often. I hate shopping! Belton's stores tend to be very inadequate, but I sure don't feel like driving to Killeen or Temple. Well, we'll see what I can accomplish.
Jan 13, 2009 Tuesday 1/13 Oh yikes, I'm a day behind with everything! I had plans for Sunday, shot down by Rick. He wanted me to go with him to McGregor, to look at a truck he heard the dealer there had; supposed to be just like his that got wrecked. Well, it wasn't; not 4-wheel drive, and diesel; he doesn't want it. Then we went to Waco, to several dealers there; then to China Springs, to visit a friend of his from ten years back (I stayed in the yard and played with the dogs, it was a short visit); then to Lorena so he could talk to his first ex-wife; also got a bite to eat. He promised we'd be home by 1:00 and didn't make it back til almost five! It was a beautiful day to go truck shopping though, and all the dealerships were closed so you could just go look. Monday I cleaned cages. I couldn't believe I'd let them get so sticky! I even gathered up jingle balls and monkeys and washed those. I'd bought a bolt-end of fleece from Walmart for about $2, it was just the right size to make two floor fleeces -- they fit perfectly. So now I have three for each cage. I like that, I can change them out more often. I held Shikoni for most of the morning before I started cleaning. He's been such a good little guy, he doesn't fight the medicine any more so it goes a lot quicker. When I started cleaning I gave his pouch to Mama and she held him for about an hour; she said she could feel him moving around, so he wasn't asleep but seemed to be very content. By then his cage was done. I closed Washi and Kioko's pouch and gave them to her to hold; she was sewing, and every time she moved Kioko yelled at her, so I put them on the chair while I finished. Then I kept them under my shirt for most of the afternoon, til I started cooking. I made cordon bleu out of thick pork tenderloin slices -- boy was that good! Had a thinner slice also that I cooked for the guys; it was too thin to stuff. They love the tenderloin! So do I. Gave the three of them half of it, so there's plenty for another day. Also green beans and kiwi. Shikoni still isn't eating everything, but getting a little more every day. He's done with the antibiotic on Thursday; there will be an awful lot left. I hate to throw it away, but you can't keep it. I'll call Dr. Gosney's office to make sure it's for ten days and not till the bottle's empty -- that would be a month and a half!!! Surely not! Have to figure out how to get Shikoni to eat nopalitos - prickly pears, very high in calcium. I can't put them into an omelet because Shikoni doesn't particularly like eggs however I cook them. He's the fussiest of the three; Washi eats anything he can get his little hands on. Kioko does too, but not as greedily.
Jan 11, 2009 Sunday 1/11 Haven't posted in a while, still not much new to record. Still giving Shikoni his medicine, though I've changed the timing of it. Instead of .01 three times a day, I'm giving him .015 twice a day. It works a lot better for both of us. I had been giving him the amoxy when I get home, about 4:30 - 5:00; then at midnight, and again before I leave for work: about 4:30 0 5:00 a.m. I was really hard for me to get up at midnight and still get up in the morning, and he really hates the syringe thing. So now I give it to him when I get home and again just before I get ready for work. The important thing is that he keeps the antibiotic in his system, and that it's given regularly, and that the daily dose is correct. His appetite is still not completely back to normal, he usually eats all his meat and just a little fruit, most of the veg. I'm not giving him the full meal yet, not until I see a clean bowl two days in a row. He's not really fond of the Nutrical either, but I make sure he gets some every day, a couple of CCs anyway. He's much more energetic, and still loves his bugs: crickets this morning, yum yum! His droppings are a little soft and dark, probably a side effect from the Amoxy. Definitely not diarrhea. Another problem with this whole thing is that he's starting to associate me with the syringes. That's perfectly natural, of course. I'm trying to mix it up, give him playtime before and after the medicine. That seems to be helping, though he really doesn't like the kitchen now, since that's where I take him for the dosing. I sure don't want him to associate the syringes with the bathroom, since that's where we play most often. Kioko and Washi are fine health-wise. I haven't spent as much time with them this week as usual. They are starting to get on my hand when I open the cage, and they let me pet them, both in and out of the pouch. I haven't been able to do playtime with them; early morning is taken up with Shikoni and it's been shorter than usual due to having to get up in the middle of the night. But I've got their pouch on my lap right now. There was just a little but of fussing from Kioko, Washi of course let me pet him. I'll keep them with me all day. I've taken Rita's advice (of course!) and I'm giving them treats in the syringe. They really like the Nutrical; I've also given them guava juice (diluted) and applesauce. I really need to get a tent! I've got to get them all three together first, since the second cage is in the only space I have for setting one up. Delays, delays, delays ... and ... patience, patience, patience! It'll happen one day.
Jan 6, 2009 Tuesday 1/6 Shikoni's feeling so much better! He still doesn't want to play, but at least he's not lethargic today. Also, he ate all his dinner; I gave him about a teaspoon each of ground turkey, papaya and collard greens, and some diluted V-8 Fusion. All gone this morning, that's such a good sign! I had a hard time getting him out of his nest though, I took it out of the cage until this medicine thing is over. Can't be luring him with a mealie three times a day, that's just too many mealies for someone who's sick. At least I think so. Washi and Kioko are feeling fine, I'm watching them closely to be sure. I don't know how I would medicate either one of them if I had to, they aren't nearly as easy to handle as Shikoni. I'll use Rita's idea of giving them juice in the syringe so they associate it with treats; that'll surely help. And if they do get sick I have that third cage if necessary, it's so small but it would have to do. I have plenty of pouches, hammocks and toys, even three wheels: the one they came with is about eight inches, really small for a glider. And two water bottles. Actually, I'm better prepared than I thought. That's what comes of being a pack rat! I had planned on continuing with the introduction process this weekend. It'll have to wait now, but that's okay. For me it's an exercise in patience, and I guess it gives them more time to get past the feeling of being threatened by each other. They've been barking again today, hope that's a good sign.
Jan 5, 2009 Monday 1/5 Shikoni's sick! His appetite has been sporadic for the last several days, but Saturday night he ate only a little ground beef; and I had given them pomegranate which he loves; then last night he barely touched his chicken, and completely ignored the apple and vegetables. I had given him some V-8 Fusion and he pretty well left that too. Sunday morning playtime, he was very lively, scampering around; but didn't want to play at all. This morning when I saw the bowl and especially the V-8, I got him out with a mealie - he will always go for a mealie - and did the dehydration test. That was OK. Then I looked him over, he looked okay but seemed to have no energy. He'd get out of the pouch, walk around on me a little, then back into the pouch. Not at all like him! I really think this screwy weather has something to do with it. This winter it's been all topsy-turvy, last Saturday 83 degrees; today it hasn't budged above 35. Every week we have those extremes, it makes me crazy. At 8:00 I called Dr. Gosney's office. They said to bring him right in, so I changed clothes, put a large fleece into my zip-up straw carrier; tucked a bottle half full of warm water in it to keep him warm, and went to town. Dr. Gosney checked him out, determined that there is a little congestion in his lungs. No fever, eyes bright, fur shiny and plush, so "just a little respiratory infection." He gave me amoxycillin, showed me much to give him (two cc's); also Nutrical for the interim, until he starts eating again. He put some Nutrical in a syringe to show me how to administer the medicine, and the little guy just licked it up. Dr. Gosney said they like it, and that it will provide all the nutrients he needs except water. I'm not so sure about that statement, but I didn't challenge it; I'll still offer the fruits and vegetables and meat, but probably not as much until he's feeling better. Total charge $79.30; not too bad. In and out in less than twenty minutes, the car was still warm; and the water bottle was also still warm when we got home. At least he had the consideration to get sick on my weekend, when the vet's open and I don't have to call in to work. They barely understand about a sick child, much less a pet, the Philistines! When we got home I gave him his first dose of the antibiotic. He likes it too! And then just a little more Nutrical, and then put him to bed. He climbed out of the pouch and into his tunnel and he's sleeping now. Washi and Kioko seem to be doing just fine. They are little rascals! I took them into the bathroom this morning with the big flashlight and a bottlebrush flower; it took them about five minutes to come out of the pouch, and Washi attacked the flower while Kioko ran around. Then Kioko came to the flower, I got a couple of pics of them; Washi went under the sink, Kioko tried to climb the wall; they were just all over the place. They played for about fifteen minutes while I sat still as I could; they startle if I move. When they went back into the pouch I took them home. They ate all their dinner last night, it was a good one: chicken and mixed vegetables roasted with rosemary, two very small pieces of potato roasted in the same packet; and sliced apple. Today I'm making chili with ground turkey, so I'll set aside some of that for the little ones, with green beans and papaya. Sure hope my little sweetie gets better soon! He's such a delight, I hate to see him feeling poorly.
Jan 1, 2009 Thursday 1/1 There hasn't been too much to record, just the same routine. Today I thought I would try some face-to-face introduction. I put a soft towel in the bathtub, took two mealies in a jar lid; got Washi out of the sleeping pouch because he has the gentler temperament of the two new boys; and took Shikoni nest and all. Got the boys into the tub and used worms to entice them out of the bonding pouch and nest, respectively. They both were a little sleepy and not too active; they ate their worms and then Shikoni moved over near Washi. There was quite a bit of sniffing of tummies, feet and butts; then Shikoni jumped at Washi's throat! They scuffled for about two seconds and broke it off; moved away from each other; a little more sniffing and another attack. Again they broke off and then fought. The fights were just two-second scuffles, until the fourth fight; that one was much more serious, I had to break it up. Shikoni ran right up my arm, I checked him for injuries (none) and then got him calmed down and back into his nest. With the other hand I was soothing Washi, poor little guy; gave him his pouch and he got right in it. I took them back to the library and got Shikoni into his cage; kept Washi with me for another fifteen minutes or so. Checked him also for injuries, also none. Once he was settled I took him home too; the first thing he did was get a big drink of water. I gave everyone a cricket and left them in peace. Right now Washi and Kioko are sound asleep. Shikoni's up and running in the wheel, he doesn't seem to be distressed by his afternoon wrestling match. I'll try again in a few days. Sure hope it works sometime soon, I'm ready to get them all together in one house. But I know the mantra ... patience, patience, patience. Offered collard greens for the first time yesterday. I simmered a chicken tender in the microwave, then put the greens into the chicken water and nuked for thirty seconds; they were still bright green and just slightly steamed. Kioko and Washi cleaned the bowl! Shikoni didn't eat any of the greens. But he doesn't like anything new, generally the third time I offer something he'll eat it. Except bugs, he took to them right away! I went to water the garden with the bottlebrush yesterday. There are only a few flowers right now, it was being visited by several honeybees and a goldfinch. So I left the flowers. Haven't had time to visit the nurseries, they're usually all closed on Sunday and Monday, my days off.
Dec 29, 2008 Monday 12/29 Well, I caught 'em at it. When I went into the library this morning everyone was awake; I wasn't sure at first about the brothers because I only saw one, he was hanging on the top of the cage, and then I saw two tails! Kioko was mounted on Washi, I could see someone's little red genitalia (probably Kioko's). No one seemed to be in any distress at all, so I left them at it. Got Shikoni, he came right onto my hand and we went to play. He's gotten pretty adventurous! His new game is to glide from my knee onto the sink, scurry across the counter and jump to the door; up the towels and back down; run across the floor, up my leg, onto the curtains; back down onto me ... and repeat. He must have done it twenty times. I like that he's getting so much good exercise and having fun, you can tell; he finally got tired and I took him home and gave him a mealie. The other two were in their pouch; I left them there. I checked on them a few minutes ago; both were eating. One's on the wheel now, I can hear it rattling. Have to clean cages today. They got shrimp last night, so there'll be a nice fishy smell. I have some clean fleeces and a corner hammock; no clean pouches, we'll see where everyone sleeps and I'll wash what's available. Dinner last night: shrimp, black and blue berries, spring mix, a few radish slices, snow peas and carrots. Also strawberry yogurt. I'll get some other flavors today, I need some to take to work for breakfasts. Sure wish we had more grocery stores; there are only a few flavors available without artificial sweeteners. Makes me crazy that both grocery chains have essentially the same thing, for all the groceries; there's just not a lot of variety around here. I'm giving them V-8 Fusion about every three days, diluted half-and-half with water. It's a big hit! It's been peach-mango. There's strawberry-banana, but I know I won't like that, and since I also have to drink the stuff, it's gotta be something acceptible to me. I found a website that gives a very detailed nutrient analysis of (so far) every food I've wondered about. It's WHFoods.com. Click through three screens, and up comes the chart with everything: trace minerals, vitamins, fats, amino acids, other components. I was surprised to discover that many of the meats (like chicken and shrimp) are lower in calcium than phosphorus; I wonder if this is also something we need to track, like we do the vegetable kingdom. Even eggs: 22:76 mg. I don't know, before long we'll only be giving them sesame seeds and molasses! Wonder what the ratios are for crickets and mealies ...
Dec 28, 2008 Sunday 12/28 Haven't been writing lately, my mornings have been really busy between Christmas stuff and work. I moved the brothers' cage into the library on Sunday. It's basically in the middle of the room on the floor, since there's no stand for it. It's a few feet away from Shikoni. That night all three spent a lot of time bar-hanging and looking at each other, scurrying around. Not much vocalization. Everyone ate well, played well, looked but didn't talk. I slept on the futon to be there, in case of what I don't know, just in case. Everything went just that way every day. On Wednesday family came over, Hunter (10) wanted to see my glider, and when I told him I had two more, he was so excited! He's another animal lover, our family seems to be full of them. We went in and I got the boys out in their pouch, they had been sleeping and so were very docile. Kioko didn't even crab, and that's unusual. Hunter petted and loved on them for a few minutes. Shikoni heard our voices and came out to see what was going on, so I put the boys back and got him out onto my arm. He jumped onto Hunter, which really tickled him! then back to me, then back to bed he went. Little sweetie. I've heard some barking and other sounds from time to time, but nothing to worry about, until ... Yesterday morning I was getting dressed and I heard the most god-awful noise, it sounded like crabbing but not quite, and sustained instead of dying out the way crabbing does. It sounded like the fighting or SM sounds I've heard online. I went to check, thinking maybe one of the little guys had gotten out somehow and was attacking the other cage. Nothing was happening at all, the sound had stopped and all three were in their pouches. I went back to my room and it started again, took their pouch out and this time I found Kioko on Washi's back, biting his neck. It looked like mating or fighting, I wasn't sure which. Reminded me of the way a cat will kill a mouse by biting the spine. I managed to get Washi out of the pouch and into the big cage, got severely bitten on the thumb and two fingers. Then I got the pouch with Kioko in it into Shikoni's little cage which is on top of the wardrobe, there's nothing in it but two bird perches, I couldn't reach well enough to hang the pouch but just laid it on the floor. I had to go to work, already running about ten minutes late so I left it that way. He should be sleeping all day anyway. When I got home the first thing I did was check Washi, the back of his neck had been wet and I hoped it wasn't blood. Well, it wasn't, I looked him over really well and there were no wounds, he was moving fine. Gave him a drop of honey and put him away. Then I got Kioko, boy did he yell! Looked him over too, also no wounds and moving well, he didn't want any honey. I started a post about this, and was very reassured to find that it's not abnormal behavior, so as long as no one gets hurt I won't let it distress me again. I thought that it might have been a dominance thing, I would have expected that to already be well-established between the two, but maybe Washi was getting rebellious and Kioko had to call in the Guard. Or perhaps it's from being so near Shikoni, that Kioko feels a little threatened in his role as the alpha male and so had to reassert himself, though I would have expected that a little sooner. I sure wish I knew what was going on in their little minds. Kioko is back in with Washi, and all's quiet this morning. I gave them all crickets, which were very well received. I'll see about play time, I have to do the flashlight thing with Washi and Kioko and probably yogurt to entice them out of the pouch. More later. Later -- well, someone had fun today! Washi was out playing, Kioko in the pouch, so I took K. into the bathroom. Flashlight on, overhead off; bowl of yogurt. He stayed in the pouch for the first couple of minutes, then jumped out and ran around on my shoulders and back for a little while. He got down and checked out the floor, under the sink; went to the door and tried to jump up on it but never climbed up the robe belt (Shikoni's rope to the top); only played five or six minutes then back up onto my lap and in the pouch. When I took him home, I was getting the cage door open and he jumped out! Gone before I could react. He ran around the library for probably twenty minutes! The room is crowded right now (still) with end tables, shelves, chairs from when we had the new floor put down: there's still work to be done in the front, so we don't want to put everything back just to move it again when the workers show up. Anyway, I couldn't see him half the time, but I could hear him running around. I sat on the floor with his pouch with two mealies in it close by; he'd come and sniff at it, but wouldn't go in, then explore a little more. Finally he got onto the cage, ran around on it for several minutes. I held the door just a little open, and he went in to get a drink of water. Whew! All the while he was loose, Washi was watching him, clinging to the cage on the side closest to where he was. Poor little guy, he wanted to go play too -- right; I'd have had a nervous breakdown! When I only had Shikoni, when he got out I could leave the cage door open and know that he'd go back home when he was done. I'm sure the new boys would do the same; and when we finally get order restored in the library, I may let them out to romp when I have time to stay and supervise. I wonder how long it will be until I can start introductions. Right this minute someone's barking and someone else is answering ... communication!
Dec 22, 2008 A terrible event tonight So at about 7:30 I was sitting on the couch, dozing off over a book, when the phone rang; it was my friend Rick. He needed me for a few minutes to "come get my truck and take it back to your house"; he was about three blocks away. I asked why, he said he's just been rear-ended on the highway turning into my neighborhood! I'd heard sirens just before the phone rang; didn't know where they were going. Well, I threw on a denim jacket (mistake! It was full dark, the wind blowing, and about 28 degrees) and walked up there; sure enough, his pickup was in the ditch on the side of the road, and EMTs were strapping him to a stretcher. I talked to him as long as they would let me, asked him if he wanted me to ride with him, and he said, no, I want you to take care of my truck. So I told him to be good and don't go pinching any nurses, and got his keys, checked in with the trooper who was directing traffic, and went home. I walked around the long way and looked at the car that had hit him, it was a small white four-door sedan, and had nothing left of the front end but the engine block -- it was horrible, I don't know if anyone was killed; I do know that at least three ambulances were called to the scene. When the trooper called, I went to get the truck. The trooper first had me put on the turn signals and step on the brake so he could check the lights; all working. Then I drove home. The driver's seat is sprung, the back half-reclined; the seat belt is jammed; I don't know why the air bag didn't deploy, but I'm glad of it. The truck looks okay except for the back bumper; but she is probably totaled. She drives like her rear end got pushed up about six inches; there's a thumping noise and a serious shimmy; she is not a happy girl. (I'd be happy if my rear end got pushed up six inches; but that's a story for another day. Or not.) Rick called me just a little while ago. He couldn't talk long, just for a couple of minutes; I got which hospital he's in and let him know his girl made it home with me. I'll have to check on him later, I figure about 10:00 or so they may be through with him and he'll have time for a friend. I'm glad he's talking, and seems to be in reasonably good spirits, considering; I hope he's not too badly hurt. I know sometimes I joke around even when it's a serious occasion. I don't mean to make light of anyone's pain, I guess it's my way of pushing back the darkness. I've been praying for the people in that little car ... and for my best friend Rick. Update Tuesday 4:40 a.m. Rick called last night about eleven, he still hadn't seen a doctor but was getting CAT scans, MRIs, etc. etc. A trooper had talked to him shortly before, it seems the woman who hit him had been drinking, an open container in the car; her passenger was a teenager who suffered some broken ribs ... Anyway, no fatalities, Thank God! I'll find out more today.
Dec 21, 2008 Sunday 12/21 Washi and Kioko think I'm the Treat Lady. As soon as I come into the room, they're running over and hanging on the side of the cage. If I get up from the chair, the same thing. Any time I'm vertical, they come to see what I'm up to. I don't always have a treat, but they still come to see what's going on. Washi is really getting tamer! The last few days he's come onto my arm when I open the cage, he'll stay there for just a second or two but that's a big step. This morning I had a mango-peach puff in my left hand, he was on my right arm; when I gave him the treat he stayed there to eat it, and to get another one. Kioko won't come that close; he still likes to have wire in between us. But he gets just as many treats as Washi. I don't think he'll ever be a cuddler. Bathroom time this morning, first Shikoni. He was in his pouch, so I took the whole thing in. He came out pretty slowly, got onto my right arm and sniffed all around; smelling Washi no doubt. He was very interested! After a few minutes he got to playing: down on the floor, climb up the towels, back onto my hand, running all over me, onto the window, back to the door -- just really having a good time. At one point he jumped from my knee onto the chair rail on top of the wainscoting; he scurried along that with his right feet, the left feet just providing stabilization I guess. I got a pic of him climbing onto the towel on the wall rack. From there a leap to the door towels again, back and forth. He's quite the little athlete! I had put his pouch in the sink; he went to it from my shoulder, that was the end. After picking up all the little poops and getting a fresh cup of coffee, it was Washi and Kioko. I've been thinking the light bothers Kioko, so I got the 6-volt lantern and set it on the edge of the sink, and turned off the overhead light. Sure enough, it wasn't a full minute till both boys were out. I'd brought in a dish of strawberry yogurt, and put it on the floor. Well, Kioko went down my leg and under the sink (which has no glider escape holes, I checked before I ever took anyone in there); I turned on the overhead light again so I could see. Washi never left me, he stayed on my back most of the time. Kioko went exploring, but didn't try to climb up the towel the way Shikoni does. He stretched up and looked at it though, so it's probably just a matter of time. He found the yogurt, I got a pic of that; and I managed to get Washi off my shoulder by practically laying down on the floor. When he saw Kioko at the bowl, he had to go check it out himself. I did get one nice clear picture of them both at the bowl. I wanted it to show the difference in their sizes, but I don't think it worked; the angle was wrong. Our bathroom is long and narrow, so I couldn't get to the right spot. The other night I fixed scrambled egg; to make it a little different, I put some plain yogurt in it. Shikoni didn't even taste it! The brothers of course ate it all up. There's nothing they won't eat, I have to be really careful about what I put in with them. Today is the day I bring them all together into one room. I'm interested in how all three are going to behave. I'm pretty sure Washi and Shikoni will do just fine, they're both pretty friendly; Kioko is the one I'm mainly worried about, he's more aggressive. I expect a lot of noise, barking and other sounds. We'll see how they do over the next week, as I bring them closer together. I plan to have the cages pretty much side-by-side in a week or ten days, depending on how everyone acts; then leave them like that for another week. So it'll be sometime in the first half of January when I do personal introductions.

My NewsKioko and Washi came to live with me on 11/23/08: five-year old brothers. As of February '09, we're having great luck with bringing them all together into one happy little colony.
Favorite Quote1) ...I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center. ... Big, undreamed-of things --- the people on the edge see them first.
Kurt Vonnegut, "Player Piano"
2) Beauty fades, dumb is forever -- Judge Judy, almost daily
My BioVery old, b. 1957 in New Martinsville, WVa. Live in Central Texas now. I'm Mother to Ophelia, a 4-foot ball python; Domino, a regular cat; and Shikoni, Washi and Kioko, three lively gliders; and Step-Mother to Mike, a 13-year old former stray yellow shepherd. We and other humans all live together in quite surprising harmony.
