I know this may sound kind of ignorant on my behalf, but how am I supposed to pick up my glider? I have had him for about a month and am yet to have to pick him up, say from his sides. For the most part I hold my hand out in front of him and he jumps on.

My concern is should I try to "pick him up" so he is comfortable if I ever need to, or can I get by with how I am doing it?

One other thing that has nothing to do with picking him up. He has no intention of going inside a pocket. I have tried numerous times, with different shirts, coats, etc. and he just wont. Is this a major set back in the bonding process if I can't get him in?
