hello Heather,

Is the finch box a 'wooden box' or one of those weaved nest boxes? If it is weaved, I would suggest putting a small piece of material in there for added warmth and comfort... and even in any other 'box' also.

Her sleeping alot - is normal. As is her wanting to be out and sleeping on you. :) Do not discourage her doing so, for this will speed up the trust/bonding process. You're her 'mommy' now... oh! and a pocket T-shirt will do the trick for now. It will show her that she has 'freedom' to choose whether to be out and about -or- curl up and snooze.

As for her not eating all that well... it is normal for the first day or so. Keep a close eye on what is consumed each morning when you remove the dish. If it doesnt seem an adequate amount by the second day, rotate the diet to 'soft foods' only. If youre having concerns about balancing her diet and getting her to eat it - Put everything you would (under normal circumstances) feed her into the blender, mush it all up and serve.
whalah! a balanced diet for a lil'one not not quiet ready for solids... and some relief for the new parent on the diet issue.
*You can freeze the extra in an icecube tray and 'defrost' as needed.
*All 'hard' or 'dry' food becomes mush too!
You can gradually introduce solid fruits, veggies & dry... along with the mix until she's ready...

This is how I wean (gradually & successfully) my babies from 'Mom' before placing them in their new homes...

Best of luck to you and your new companion!
