A guy I know tried it and it didn't work at all, they had to be kept in separate cages. He said the squirrel was a pain in the butt. They're two very different pets. The squirrel is a rodent, the glider isn't. The glider will bond with you and sleep all day in your pocket, the squirrel won't. The sugar glider will very much appreciate a sugar glider for company.
This isn't my personal experience, but I believe him totally.
