I was feeling a little ornery and was going to be a smart ass, but i won't. If you can find directions on how to build one let me know, i'll build a few.

I went to Staples and bought one of their plastic index card boxes (though I need to go back and get a bigger one!). I used a spade drill bit to make a big hole on one of the small sides of the rectangular box. Then I drilled two small holes in the top to put little fleece ropes through so it can be hung up high. I like the fact that the index card boxes have hinged tops so you can easily reach in and pop them open to check on everyone or get anyone out. Also the plastic is super easy to keep clean. My gliders LOVE it. My mama glider really prefers it to pouches so since she's got babies in pouch a new large size will be her "baby shower" present!

I'll try to get some pictures and post them up soon!

Kyro...I think me and you are not the only nuts on this forum!

I've seen people use like small cardboard boxes, and cut a hole in one flap. The gliders seemed to like it alot! But, I wouldn't know where to get them

She is my sweetest glider. Daddy likes to nip my fingers and doesn't like me to pet him (but does like to sit on my shoulder like a parrot!) and baby is trying to figure out how food can come from my hands but my fingers themselves not be food! Mama was always a nervous little one and I can pick her up gently when she's sleeping and she'll just sleep in my hand. Lately she seems a bit tired and depressed looking (not actually showing signs of depression! just her facial expression) like she is saying, "gah! no more babies! get them offa me!!" She deserves a cooshy bed for her last round of babies. :)

Drakkie- I might check out family dollar! Are they pretty stable? The ones at Staples are made of really hard plastic. Also I have a Staples rewards card and get free "Staples money" that I need to spend anyway! But any sturdy box will do!

They also make wooden index card boxes.. We have a few at work that looked like they would make awesome nest boxes. They are coated pretty thick with something clear.. schalack(sp) or polyurethane or something, so the pee wouldn't soak in.

Personally, I want to make one out of a hollowed out tree limb and a rabbit pelt... too bad I can't be the first one to do it.

Metal can get pretty gross and/or rusty when it gets wet so it's probably not the best for gliders. Also the metal could get really hot or really cold where plastic and wood are fairly stable temperature wise. Also there could be sharp edges. Then again maybe there is someone out there who had perfected the metal nest box....anyone?

It's just an alternative to pouches since gliders normally nest in hollowed out trees in the wild. Some gliders prefer them to pouches because they feel sturdier and safer and more tree-hole-like. Especially mama gliders. :)

We have a nest box for our girls and I have a hunch that it is pine. Hasnt been a problem for us but I am not sure it is technically the best material. Hubby just passed by and said it is pine for sure. It was a planter box that I bought and then we fitted an oak door on top that opens. Also drilled a hole in the side of course so they can get in and out . It has a sealer on the wood so it helps to keep pee from penetrating but some still does. It did not have the thickest sealer though. Need to make them another box to replace it. They have slept in the nest box ever since we got them. It is maybe 6"x6"x6". They never poop or pee in the nest box which is great .

kyro298, i made this one last night. I was feeling bad that i don't have a nest box, just some pouches, coconuts and a cardboard box. The cardboard box is too slipery for them to grab hold of, so they end up sliding off.
