Great nest box! So what kind of wood did you end up using? Will the top be secured or just slid under the wood piece? Wanting to get ideas for making a new box.

That's really awesome, Scott!

Couldn't quite warm up to that chainsaw, huh? I don't blame you. Be afraid, be veeerrrry afraid.

So - you'll probably have to seal the wood. I'm wondering if that'll make it slippery to climb on? The natural log does get a bit funky, and has to be cleaned off, but for me, it's worth a bit of rinsing.

LOL dizzysmom. I don't have any good logs around so i just used some extra wood i had. I used 3/4inch solid pine for the windowsills in our house and had some extra so i thought i would just ues that.I'm not sure if im going to paint or seal it with anything, i like the look of wood and its already slipery. I'll just make a new one in 6 months or so.

Cool links Rach, more ideas

kyro298 i still have a little extra pine

Excellent!! I was wondering how you'd deal with that, cuz I figured it may be a problem. Probably easier to clean than a log ...

Since I'm more handy than my husband, (poor guy-but it's his brains that I'm thankful for anyway)I decided to go with the index card box route. LOL Both are sturdy plastic and the lids can open. What can you make a hole with that won't make the opening too rough/sharp for them to climb through?

I made a temporary one from a Bud Ice box we had left over from a party. I just covered it with fleece and cut the top to where it lifts up.

It may be ghetto but my babies love it.

Wow these are great nest boxes guys. Heres anotherlink with a pattern. http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/dpi/nreninf.nsf/93a98744f6ec41bd4a256c8e00013aa9/bb1b847388607cf4ca25700a00244f4f/$FILE/ATTAN0N5/Lw0014.pdf

i have just painted a nesting box and put fleece and the gum leaves from there pouch in it. It's getting cold here now and the fleece puches loose to much heat outside. The boxes stay a more constent temperature.
