I am curious about simple Earth Worms. Could we not just dig some of those from our backyard and offer those? We do not spray our yard at all and neither does any of our neighbors that connect to our yard. I don't think I have ever seen any one in our little street spraying.

Which of those other worms (Phoenix, Wax and/or Butter) are easiest to keep live? Do any of them stink? Is there are web page somewhere that will tell me how to care for them, when and how to feed them to the suggies, etc. I am very interested in trying either earth worms or phoenix worms.

Thanks!

BTW... the little bug running around the screen in the first post really freaked me out. I tried to mush it and was confused for a bit there. I'm too tired, I guess, LOL

I do not know about the earthworms, even if you do not see anyone spraying, they could be putting fertilizer down. Never seen anyone stating that they feed earthworms. As someone else had put, if in doubt leave it be, there are too many other items to feed them. I have tried the wax worms and they are okay, not my glider's favorite. The phoenix worms are different and most of our eight will now eat them. They come in a sealed container similar to what nightcrawlers for fishing come in and you do not have to feed them. just keep them in the container in a cool (not refridgerated) place, clean off the material they are kept in when you take them out,be sure they are dry (if moist they can climb) and put them into a dish and let the gliders have at it. The only others that we feed are mealworms (not superworms) and if you are looking for live, good mealworms, I saw an ad under the classifieds and that this supplier is liked by most of those on the site. I feed the Zoo Med Can-O-Worms from SunCoast Gliders or Petco. They are no trouble, but they are dead.

Kazko - I hate your bug!

Goliath worms are Tomato Worms. They are a HUGE pest, and it would be illegal to release them - just so you know. You can buy them for pets or for your gliders, but the moths can NEVER be allowed out - nor can the worms.

Earthworms are completely different. The things we call "worms" - meal worms, Goliath worms, wax worms, silk worms - are not true worms. They are a stage of moth. (except meal worms - which are a larval stage of beetle.) They are ENTIRELY different than true earth worms. They are different structurally, nutritionally, in their diet, in their life-stage... every thing. I do not think they'd be suitable to feed. They are not even "bugs" which all the others are.
