Starting a thread to post rescues, their location, and website. I figured it might be helpful when trying to help people find a rescue Here are the ones that I know of (if you know of any others, please add to the list): Lucky Glider Rescue & Sanctuary (LGRS) Ed((LuckyGlider)) & Gail Van Alstyne, TX http://www.luckyglider.org/
quote: LGRS works under the auspices of the USDA with regular animal care inspections and veterinary program oversight.

Kingdom Kritters Rescue & Sanctuary (Thanks shadow) Val((Something_To_Believe_In)) Texas http://kingdomkritters.webs.com/

She told me and I forwarded her to this thread. She really seemed to prefer the idea of adopting a pair from a rescue over going through a breeder. I also told her of none of them were close enough to contact Ed. So hopefully she'll be able to go through one of the rescues. thefotokat Glider 177 Posts SouthEast Sugar Gliders Rescue and Sanctuary www.southeastsugargliders.org We're 501(c)(3) and in full compliance with all concerned agencies in our area. I know this is OT, but there is no bagged suggie food that's good for gliders. The bagged food that is available, we'll I've never seen it come in 30lb bags. What are you referring to? As for becoming a rescue, there are many things to consider BEFORE opening your doors. Time, money, experience, space...the list goes on. This is a post SESG put together discussing this: sesg.suggies.net/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=3166
You must research the laws in your area and take steps to be in compliance. USDA is not the only regulating agency in most areas. Money...I am a 501(c)(3) and that does not mean all my glider bills are paid. I am still self-funded. I pay for all necessary supplies and I have them on hand before I need them. Those who choose to work (and yes, it IS work) in animal rescue must accept all the responsibilities that go along with it. We see gliders come in in all types of cages, most without any safe supplies. They come in sick, injured and stressed. When you open your doors to them you must be experienced enough to care for them and make their lives better. You must have a support network...people who will help you rr gliders or just listen when you need to cry because you took in a glider who suffered so much that it breaks your heart. Rescue work is hard work, both physically and emotionally. It's not easy. aliciaandscotty Starting Member 3 Posts the bagged sugar glider food is called HAPPY GLIDER you can order it in bulk for a low price AND BY THE WAY ITS ONLY "BAGGED" WHEN YOU BUY BULK MY VET RECOMMENDED THIS FOOD AND MY GLIDERS ARE HAPPY HEALTHY AND THEY LOVE IT www.pet-pro.com/prodindex.html

This product also contains Menadione: http://www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?p=Menadione&revision=2
It's even banned for human consumption by the FDA! Not that that isn't enough, but the first five ingredients of the Happy Glider are corn, barley and soy. Yes, I said 5. Corn is twice, soy is twice. Everyone that's done any type of research knows that corn is not good for gliders due to the phosphorous ratio compared to the calcium ratio. It's so backwards, it inhibits the calcium from being absorbed. Corn=backward calcium ratios and fillers. PERIOD. As for soy, that's debatable. I've personally chosen to stay away from it based on facts I've read. People can decide for themselves based on FACT, not OPINION: http://www.sugarglider.com/glidergossip/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=14991
What are your vets thoughts on corn, soy and Menadione? One more thread for thought... http://www.sugarglider.com/glidergossip/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24522
In case you don't bother to read all the links since I've provided a few, the moral of the story on the last one is I also had a "Happy and Healthy" rescue glider until the day he died. The necropsy report concluded he died from irreversible liver damage caused by years of bad diet (before I had him). He was somewhere between 3-4 years old when I got him too. There were no outward signs and no way for me to know. Any guesses on what his diet was? Anyone? Megs06 BANNED_ACCOUNT USA 1 Posts Ooooohhhhhh....... Hmmmmmmmmmm........ I dunno. Pellets are healthy. PPP told me so! So... It can't be that! /sarcasm XD
