 Sugar glider diet

Hi all! I was just wondering - what is a good diet for sugar gliders because I heard that you can just put fruits, veggies and protein as a meal but I wasn’t sure if that was correct.
Thank you so much!

Two Female Leus Potentially Pregnant w/ Photos + Male is trying to mount and mate with females while I believe both have joeys IOP, is this normal & why?

Posted by: SammyKate

Hello all,

I am new to this site and would greatly appreciate any feedback that I can get. I love my suggies unconditionally and am very educated just not so much when it comes to breeding/mating. I am spending hours and hours reading and educating myself to get ready for joeys if they come and have a rejection kit just in case.

So hear it is...

I have three gliders:

1. Misty - Leu Female Age: Just over 1 year OOP
*showed signs of pregnancy approx two weeks before my other female leu and I believe that she is with a baby or two that are approx 4-5 weeks IOP.

2. Boo - Leu Female Age: 1 year OOP *I believe she is with a baby or two that are approx 2-3 weeks IOP.

3. Kazoo - Intact Normie Male Age: believed to be around 5 months OOP he has developed large balls that drop at times and has developed his scent gland on his forehead.

All 3 gliders are housed together.

Misty’s Story:
I first noticied very light pink flesh around Misty’s pouch area which worried me at first. I have checked her every night now for the last 4-5 weeks and it has remained fleshy pink and normal. I was told she either got her pouch ready for when she’s in heat next or that she’s pregnant with babies IOP.

Here is a photo of what it first looked like when I first noticied:

These are photos of Misty’s Pouch approximately 2 weeks after the above photos were taken. I personally think I can see one or two small pea sized shapes in her pouch area and it appears to have grown versus the above photos.

Now here are my most recent photos, taken just a couple days ago. If she does have babies in pouch they would be approx. 4-5 weeks IOP.

So my question is by looking at these photos can anyone who has breeding experience inform me on their opinion as to whether or not my Misty has a Joey or Joeys IOP.

Misty’s Sister Boo is also showing very similar signs. She showed signs of joeys IOP approx two weeks after Misty.
Misty and Boo are approx. same age.

Here is some recent photos of Boo’s pouch and belly:
Note Boo is not as far along as Misty is (if they even have joeys IOP)

Now here is my second question and I have tried to do my research but can’t seem to find an answer anywhere:

My intact male keeps trying to mount my girls and is trying to mate with them recently. I notice him smelling by there tails a lot and he will climb on top of their backs and try to mount them to initiate mating. The females usually crab at him or tisk at him to get off.

Now I believe both females have joeys IOP, so is it normal for an intact male to try to mate with the females even though they already have joeys in the pouch?
Is this a negative thing or is it normal and does anyone know why he is doing this?

I read somewhere that sugar glider females have two uteruses and they can have concurrent pregnancy’s I.e. having babies in the pouch while being pregnant with babies.

So basically will and can a male mate with a female sugar glider whom has joeys IOP. Is there any risks to the mom or joeys?

Any information provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone

 Hissing occasionally while peeing

Hi guys!,

So I just wanted to get your advice on something as I'm still pretty new to having a sugar glider so want to be 100% sure :). First off if there is anyone from south Africa on this site that knows of any vets that treat sugar gliders in KZN would be great to know! Basically every once in a while Axl will make like a quiet hissing sound when he pees and I read up that it could be a urinary infection. Does anyone know of any ways to help cure that as i looked online and it said cranberry juice, I'm currently trying to find a vet in the area to take him to just in case but if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with this please let me know :)

Thanks
Guys

Diet Questions (New user not yet a sugar glider owner)

Posted by: Kay719

Hi, I am a new user on glider gossip. I found d this helpful with answering questions about bonding with a sugar glider and decided it would be worth while to join to get other people’s perspectives on sugar glider care. I am having trouble figuring out the best diet for two sugar gliders. I have looked at the Wombaroo diet, the BML diet and the different forms of the HPW diets. I was set on Wombaroo for a bit, but I’m starting to think that I’d rather have something that doesn’t use pre made ingredients other than for nectar. I was hoping for some answers on that as well as this. When you have to blend a diet and put it in the freezer, I know you have to let it thaw a bit before giving it to your sugar gliders. What if I am in a rush and don’t have time to let it thaw, could I potentially move it along a bit faster by microwaving it? Would that affect the mixture in a negative way at all? I’m really interested to hear any and all answers!

 Complicated Introduction, Advice?

Posted by: mwlgliders

Hello all, I'm new here- although I've visited a lot. I'm a suggie mom of 2, and now 3. Ive had my original 2, Maple & Willow, for close to 2 years now. They are both females and are bonded to my boyfriend and I. We love them dearly and spoil them lots! Maple is our dominant glider, but she is a sweetheart. Willow is super chill and easy going.
Maple is a forager, Willow is a athlete- loves her wheel lol!

A few months ago, my hairdressers told me that she had a close friend who is going through a lot of personal issues right now, and is looking to rehome her female glider, Luna. She has had Luna since she was 8 weeks old (from what I've heard, that is a bit early). Luna has been alone for her whole life since, and she is about 1 1/2 years old. I don't blame the her or think negatively about her for keeping Luna alone, as she was told that they do fine alone. However, she really did not have enough time to spend with her and she shortly after developed some health issues that caused even less time for her to bond with Luna. My boyfriend and I were very lucky to have had such a helpful/educated mentor when we first got Maple and Willow, but I know that is unfortunately not the case for everyone. So I do not cast judgements on Lunas previous owner, if anything I applaud her for taking Luna into consideration and realizing she could have a better life elsewhere. The owner did not spend more than 1 hour a day with her, and she left her alone on the weekends because she went out of town. So Luna was alone ALOT. She also told us that Luna would bark all night if she didn't leave a light on because she was "afraid of the dark". Which in my opinion, I knew that this was most likely because she did not want to be alone. Poor little thing.

When I first met Luna, she was crabby, overweight, and nippy. But we saw her living conditions and diet, and knew that we could provide a much better life for her. We waited a few weeks before we got her because we were in the middle of moving and wanted to have everything settled before she came to her new home. 3 short weeks later, we were all ready for her. We went and picked her up and when we brought her home we noticed major signs of over grooming above her eyes. So in that 3 short weeks, she had became even more unhappy and depressed. She also had dried up food between her nose, a place that no one could get unless she was in a colony. I also don't believe that she has ever had a nail trim. I do not think that she has ever had new toys either, so for her whole life she has been in the same cage (which thankfully is big) with the same boring few toys... all alone. Overall, I knew that we had our work cut out for us in many ways. Luna needs bonding, attention, a better diet, more exercise, more stimulation, social skills, etc.

I just hope that Maple & Willow eventually accept her into their colony.

We did a lot of pouch swapping, let them see each other through the cages (which Luna was Oh SO interested!!), and tub time, and eventually they all were snuggling into the same pouch. Maple & Willow were both grooming Luna (probably thinking.. WOW she is dirty!! lol) ALL was well!!!!

...WAS!

Maybe it was too soon, but we let Luna into Maple & Willows cage and thats were things started going downhill. We put multiple food dishes in, multiple pouches, etc. Maple and Willow didn't mind her eating at all, or playing with any toys, they were both ok with it. At one point, they all 3 were even on a wheel together. But I was watching Maple and she was scent marking all over, which wasn't too surprising since Maple is our dominant one. But then, Luna tried getting onto Maples back, and Maple didn't seem to like that. Willow didn't like it either when Luna was trying to get on her, but she didn't cause too much of a scene. But Luna KEPT trying with Maple. They started scuffling a bit and making noise. They weren't balled up, but I would clap and they would stop. I just didn't want anyone getting hurt. I haven't been able to find much info about this so hopefully I will get some insight. Eventually, it was happening so much that I figured we should separate them again because it was getting late and I had to be up at 5 AM. So I did, but I still put their cages close enough where they can see each other.

So we gave them space, and overall, Luna is still doing better and her hair is growing back from the previous over grooming. Her fur looks so much better, she is becoming more social, and she is getting lots of exercise and stimulation with her new toys.
This morning we decided to try some tub time, with no pouches around, and I was yet again saddened. Maple went straight towards Luna and bit her! Again and again, as Luna just went to hide. Willow was fine and accepting, but not Maple!

This is so frustrating for me because at first they were accepting her, letting her into their pouch, cuddling, and grooming her. But now Maple is being rude!! It sucks. It is discouraging. But I know that this could be a long process, so I don't want to stop trying. We put them back into their cages, but swapped pouches again to hopefully help out.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Similar situations? Anything Motivational to help me not be too sad?! I really thought it was going well, but I feel like we've taken a few steps backwards. Luna needs a colony and I feel like we were getting so close. What do you think?

 I've had enough.

I have a male and female sugar glider. The male is 2 and the female is 1.5. I had the male first obviously and be was very quiet, didnt make alot of noise just all around a good little guy. Then I bring the girl into the picture and at first she was kinda crazy running around and what not. Finally she calmed down and they are now bonded. However, EVERY night she barks for 2 or more hours and I have had it. I almost want to find her a new home, it messes with my sleep. I've had to put her into a differnt cage to get any amount of sleep at all. Its non stop.

 Sugar Glider is weak

Posted by: krmluvsaba

Hey guys I’m new here. My sugar glider is around 5-6 years old. She’s barely eating but maybe a bite of food then she doesn’t want anymore. She’s also weak and can barely climb up her cage to get in her pouch and she’s not as active for the past 2 weeks.
I took her to the vet yesterday and overall she’s healthy and no signs of anything wrong. All tests came back clear. So what could be wrong? The vet said the diet I have her on is great. But he did give me a list of stuff to mix up and freeze for her.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Or what I could do to help her.
She eats fruit such as banana’s, strawberries, other berries. meat chicken unseasoned, she eats boiled eggs and her normal pellet food and has a booster too. Thanks in advanced .

 Does my glider like me?

Posted by: Axlbabyglider

Hi guys first off I just wanted to say that this site is an absolute lifesaver especially because I'm from South Africa where sugar gliders aren't super popular as pets yet! I just wanted to give a bit of background on my situation and if anyone would like to give me their opinion that would be great! So I have had Axl for about a month and a half and he's two years old. At the moment I can hold him in my hand and he's pretty chilled and spends most of his time sleeping on my shoulder in my jersey and goes everywhere with me :) with regards to crabbing he has probably only done it about 5 times and they have all been when my other pets have come too close. He does however nip me often but then releases straight away and it's not sore or anything but was just wondering if that's him being friendly or something else?

Ideas on veggies sugar gliders cannot resist

Posted by: Axlbabyglider

Does anyone have any ideas of what vegetables the majority of sugar gliders cannot resist? I have had my sugarbaby Axl for about a month and a half and he eats the veggies when they have been blended in with his food (I feed HPW diet) however the only veggie he eats one it's own is cucumber. Is that alright? Or any suggestions? Thanks I'm very new to this :)

What is the difference between the critter love original, complete and instant? Why would one chose one of those over the BML? Where can you buy each of these?

Hello! I have a suggie and am wondering can I give my little boy Organic Wasabi Seaweed snacks. It's 25 calories per a serving but I am only planing on giving him a small corner so it would be much less.
