Barking all night by the bed

The last two nights the animals have been barking. I have been able to quiet them by shining a flashlight at the cage from my bed. The barking sounds similar to a high-pitched small dog barking or yapping. They also make other sounds that I am soon going to try to record. I have heard them giggle and squeak and purr and so on... I have noticed that the male is darker in color and a bit smaller than the female. Again I think the male is the younger of the two. The female seems to be getting more used to me. She hardly crabs, if at all, anymore when I wake her up. I tried to feed them milk from an eye dropper, but neither of them liked it. The male took a drop and then started shaking his head frantically like he really didnt like the taste. I have taken a few digital photos of the animals and I posted a sheet at my office asking for possible names. My favorite of them so far has yet to be written. I have noticed that they will stay high on the wooden log that I placed in the cage. They like to eat in the corner of the cage and the log, hanging from the log, hanging from the cage side or ceiling, or anywhere else they can hide and feel safe. They seldom go to the cage floor for anything, however, when the lights are off and they are totally awake, they frolic all over the cage, including the floor. I was amazed at how quickly they both found the hamster water bottle I installed. Last night I caught the male hanging upside down on the side of the cage drinking from it.

The two sugar gliders are not eating

The animals have yet to eat or drink anything. I have successfully fed the male apple, but the female just doesnt want anything. I dipped the apple in water and the male licked it and ate it to his content, and I was able to get the female to drink just a little bit. I think I am going to run to the store and get some low-fat high-protein cat food. Phil told me that was their main staple. He didnt like to feed his animals live proteins. The female seems very fearful of being handled. She even bit me today a couple times when I tried to get her used to being handled (it didnt hurt). Once she is being held though, she accepts it. It is very hard to hold her steady. She just keeps on running from hand to hand and jumps at anything that looks like it will hold her. The male on the other hand is fearful of jumping and will only go half a foot. I think he is the younger one.

Brought home my first sugar gliders

Tonight was my first night with my new male and female sugargliders. I purchased the pair from Phil in Ponder, Texas for $300. They are both about 22 weeks birthed and from different families. The male is calm and can be held easily whereas the female is very excitable and just wants to run away. She jumped many times from my hand and shoulder against the wall trying to climb as high as she could. I finally put her on my ceiling fan and she was content to just sit there grooming herself. Obviously she wanted to be at the highest point possible to get a good look and feel as to what was going on. Right away I noticed the male mounting the female which was strange as I was told that it takes a year before they are sexually mature. They would not eat anything that I offered them so I assumed that they were nervous or had already been fed. I finally got the two to eat fresh pieces of apple. The male was content just sitting in his cage all night eating apple, whereas the female would instantly fly out of the cage door and go exploring.
