I think your doing GREAT! First of all I wanted to tell you congrats on getting your Pele! Most people go for the little babies. I'm glad to see that you adopted her! :)
It is so funny that you posted this. Last week I e-mailed some people and told them I was in the "am I doing this right" stage! Glad to see I'm not the only one! :)
My Baron is pocket/pouch trained. On the days that I am unable to take him with me, I rarely disturb him during the day. I figure if I hate to be woke up, he probably doesn't care much for it either! :)
Just keep up the good work! Follow your heart... it (and Pele) will ultimately let you know if you are doing this right! :)
