you know that is just uncalled for showing them off for people like that..what right does anyone have to treat a animal like crap. now i am sure everyone will be going out to bye them and not knowing what to do with them. my friend got one a week ago and was going to eat so he placed it in a little tub with holes sayingit would be fine it was 90 drgrees 10 min later he came back and it was dead it's head wet and its botty sweaty it died from heat..he didn't know how to treat it or handle it and what about keepingthem in the pocket not all of them will do that some like to come back only for a little bit what then..they are made to lok like the perfrct pet yes they are pretty close but it takes time love, and understanding of thier needs. you get a glider you learn about it first i am sure people will be asking for one now and there wil be alot of poor gliders some heartbroken after gtiven away casue they don't bond prob becasue the way they will be treated, others stepped on,exposed to heat forced to do this and that shown to everyone when they arn't ready..no one here is hiding them from the outside world..we are just saying you need to learn about them first they are far from a hamster or cat why this magazine wanted to do this is beyond me prob getting money out of it for sales..educating people is what everyone here is saying as am i..how many times to people get stuff and then get tired of it....nowia m sure a 12 year old and up or even yonger maybe is responsible enough couldd handle a glider, after they learned about them i didn't get mine until i read everythingi could on here .....pet stores the ones i have seen esp here they have two fully grown gliders in a 5 gallon tank that is it.they had 4 in thier at once ifi could of i would of saved them but i didn't have that much money..but stuff like that..that is how alot will be treated...the magazine article should be retracted and more info on them placed in there..the outside world does have a right to know but they can know slowely not all at once you have to learn first and that takes time most pet stores don't think about thier gliders just money and that article is gonna bring them buisness i am sure but then what what about the glider after they are bought when they don't lead up to the expectation of the magazine article see ya glider sold or given away or just left alone they have needs that wern't addressed and the held back the fact hat some bite when they are scared and so forth no noe knows about that i can see it now mom he bit me and the mother gives it away or something or the person gets tired of it biting casue they don't know what to do for they bought the glider on impulse...we took then from thier home and brought them here and the least we can do is treat then right which is what most of the people on here do and try to help anyone that needs it...they deserve to have thier needs met as do any pet when you get it..all the people here and i are saying is that the article should of had more in it ups and downs tell the american people the truth not jsut half of it..that is why it should be slowely introduced..so people can learn and so glides can be treated right...i will help write to that magazine if anyone needs it...... just all i am saying is that The outside world needs to be educated first..SOME THINGS ARE JUST NOT MEANT TO BE KNOWN ABOUT ALL AT ONCE..READ FIRST BEFORE YOU BUT A GLIDER thanks dan
: : Hey, I went to Stop & Shop today and got the Magazine Teen people and was flipping through it and I got to the "COOL LIST" aka The List of The Coolest Things of 1998. Supposdely everthing on this list is gonna raise in popularity soon or it already has! Well, the sugar glider was number 19 out of 21 if they are in order? Well, there is a pic of one and it said undernathit: : : Quote - Pocket Pet : : This little guy is an Australian Sugar Glider, a marsupial like a kangaroo, only waaay smaller (about 6 inches long). They've been Down Under forever, but they're fairly new to the U.S. the Friendly creature can survive on (fruit, nuts, & cat food) for 10 years or more, and you can train them to use your pocket as a homebase. Be Warned: Sugar gliders are illegal in some states and need tons of care. Ask your local pet store if it's USDA certified to carry them (prices start at about $200). You can also e-mail Herpeton Exotic Pets (herpeton@herpeton.com) or see the site www.herpeton.com. Unquote
: : Thats what it said. Good info for a first timer? I think so! And they made it to PEOPLE MAG!!! Thats great for our little buddies. Lots of people have been emailing me about them cause they saw them in Teen People. Boy does word spread fast about gliders all over the world!!! I thought this was great for their popularity. : : ~Jess~ & ~Roo~ : : Oh yeah, if you thought it was bad, keep it to your self, I dont want any flames. :o) : Jess you know that i respect you, I do not however respect the article that you've brought to my attention nor do I have any respect for animal dealers who throw gliders for 30 feet to show them of. On the web page Herpetons acctually say that you acn toss them around like paper airplanes! I know that Griz and Lily would never trust me if I flug them about like beany babies. If anyone, like myself, thinks that the article is not in the best interests of gliders or perspective owners, then join me in writing Teen People and ask them to print more facts about gliders and their care. I plan on asking that people who want gliders should surf the net and /or read as much as they can get their hands on for them to be sure that this is the pet for them. Bourbon... right as always. :>} glider love and nibbles, Diana
