Subject: glider mating--should they be controlled
Posted by vienna on May 01, 1999 at 09:11:03:

Our male glider is constantly attempting to mate with the female-----sometimes she gets 'crabby' and shoos him away, but more often than not---I see them copulating.....
She just had one joey oop at the end of March, he's on solid food---we think she sped up the weaning process b'cos their may be another joey in her pouch. We have no intention of neutering, or moving the male to another cage---after all they are social creatures, and I don't think it would be fair to remove him from his family... But from what I have read they say the maximum amount of 'pairings' per year-----should be limited to between 2&3----Is this correct?
Wouldn't having joeys too often, one after another shorten her life span......Wouldn't it tax her body and stress her out too much.....Any information regarding this question would be helpful....Thanking you in advance....Vienna
