Jun 1, 2009 Made it home from a very long roadtrip After 3600 miles, 14 gas stops, $450 and 188 gallons of gas with an average of 19.27 mpg, we made it home. Gas was cheapest in Kingston, TN and most expensive in Avon, IN. We spent $500 in cash and my credit card has $1700 in trip related charges including the gas, motels, eating, zoos, tickets, ... Credit card charges included: $649.38 on lodging which did not include 5 nights at Seans and 2 nights with Raven (thanks!) $450 on gas $262 on food which did not include eating at Ravens and Dinners paid for by Rheasha and Rita and Christie. I am happy to be home and am ready to plan the next roadtrip.
May 31, 2009 Visit with Rita We visited the St Louis Zoo this afternoon and then met Rita at Childrens Hospital to see her new grand children
.
We had dinner with Rita and Christie at Uno's Chicago Grill which I had previously known as Pizzaria Uno's. Their Chicago style pizza is superb and their peanut butter cup desert rocks my world! Click here

Elaine Kirchner is the Australia exhibit keeper and she showed us around the back office and I got to see all five of their striped possums. Click here

May 26, 2009 NYC and lots of walking We visited New York City today from Phili. Drove up early to catch the Battery Park ferry to Liberty Island and then Ellis Island. After filling the camera full of liberty photos, we walked up Manhattan, checked out the WTC rebuild area, had dinner and made it just in time to the Comedy Cellar to get front row seats. We three got heckled a lot by these guys: ARDIE FUQUA, GREGG ROGELL, CLAY BERTRAND, TODD BARRY, JAMES SMITH, KEITH ROBINSON, JIM NORTON, GREG GIRALDO, ANTHONY JESELNIK. Made it home by 2am.. Ugh... May 25, 2009 Philadelphia Duck Tour We walked Philadelphia today and had a neat Amphibious Duck tour. They gave everybody cheap plastic duck call toys and required us to be annoying to passers by. Did you know that Benjamin Franklin had the only Sedan Chair around that was used to transport him daily to work. Click here

May 24, 2009 Longwood Gardens
We got lucky enough to time our visit perfectly so that we were in Phili to see the rare Fireworks and Fountains show at Longwood Gardens
. The property itself is amazing as it has endless walks with amazing flowers, plants, shrubs, trees and other neat things to see. It also has endless numbers of large green houses connected together with all sorts of amazing things on display. Outside and around there are many fountains of varying sizes and the focus of the visit was the evening's show of Fountains and Fireworks which was delayed by an hour due to an imminent threat of stormy weather, but they finally let it start around 10:15pm, and before the introduction was finished, it started raining. We were prepared and had large umbrellas and were able to sit right there on the lawn enjoying the show while most everyone else scattered. Towards the end of the show the storm increased and got wild with lightning and thunder and sideways rain and we just sat there and watched the finale and the amazingly well sequenced fountains, lights, fireworks and lightening. I will remember this experience for a long time and now I wish I had gotten some video of the craziness to share with you all.

May 23, 2009 Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center We visited Fort Washington this morning and then visited the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport which is a very large hangar that holds the things you cannot see at the DC Mall including the Space Shuttle Enterprise, Rockets, Capsules, Satellites and endless airplanes including the Enola Gay which is parked above some Japanese airplanes and you can eerily see the Japanese markings reflected from the silver skin of the plane that destroyed Japan.
