Subject: self neutering... "tie-off" method...anyone heard of this or done it?

Hi everyone.. I've been looking for a reasonably priced vet to neuter my 6 month OOP male, the only ones I can find locally want $100, and only one of them has actually neutered a glider before! In my searching I contacted an ASPA breeder in Michigan asking if he knows of a vet, he informed me that his vet ( who also does his inspections etc ) taught him a "tie-off" method and they neuter every male baby they sell this way, and he plans to neuter his adult the same way when they are done breeding...His description: The tie-off method is simple --- although it is a two person job. One person
holds the glider while the second lifts the sac and ties off the sac with some
dark, thick thread ... near to the body. (The testicles will fall off in about
five to seven days.) If the gliders are grown, the one holding the glider may
want to use a towel or gloves to prevent any bites.

This sounded awful to me, I worried about infection, pain etc etc etc... his responses: The tie-off method is simple --- although it is a two person job. One person
holds the glider while the second lifts the sac and ties off the sac with some
dark, thick thread ... near to the body. (The testicles will fall off in about
five to seven days.) If the gliders are grown, the one holding the glider may
want to use a towel or gloves to prevent any bites.

Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this or tried it... would like some opinions! Thanks bunches

Candi and the entire critter crew, especially Geo my little boy
