Subject: To breed or not to breed.... Posted by Shianne on February 15, 19100 at 18:47:38 from 152.163.207.68 Ok, let me just start by reminding everyone that their mothers told them not to say anything if they could not say anything nice. I am really curious to know how the board feels about the issue of breeding. To be perfectly honest it upsets me greatly that any of us are breeding. Even the most responsible owners. It seems like while we are all sharing the news about joeys we are simultaneously trying to find homes for gliders who wound up with irresponsible owners. I can't count how many times I have seen a post that went something like "What does a glider look like because I want to get two and have them mate". I know that some of you are excellent parents to your fuzzies but I do not understand this compulsion to bring more into the world when so many are out there suffering. Isn't our responsibility to set an example and try to discourage breeding. Let's face it, the pinheads (bad breeders etc) of the world are going to continue to use their gliders as baby making machines for a profit. Shouldn't we counter act that? I know most of you are not trying to profit and work on finding good homes for your babies but we have all seen seemingly good homes turn bad quickly. Plus, I would love it if someone had any ideas on how to keep their gliders from breeding without nuertering or pulling their mates b/c of the frequent problem of breeding too close together. Plus as some of us have discussed having an un nuetered male increases his likelihood illness. Ok, I should stop here but I would like to hear thoughts & opinions.
